Car was at RM auction Monterey 8/11 sold for $231,000
    www.rmauctions.com/CarDetails.cfm

    Lot 156
    1993 Jaguar XJ220
    SAJJEAEX8AX220707

The XJ220 presented here is finished in classic silver with a grey leather interior and currently shows approximately 2,900 original kilometers on its odometer. It retains the original paint finish and has no accident history. It was built in August 1993, and it is one of the group of 37 unsold XJ220s that were carefully stored, sparingly driven and serviced at the Jaguar factory in Coventry. It is also one of the group of 10 cars that were factory-fitted with power-brake boosters, and in September 1998, they were turned over by the factory to Grange Jaguar, a large dealer located east of London.

It was sold in 1999 to James Mills and David Sindelar of Bentley of St. Louis, located in St. Louis, Missouri. EPA approval work was performed by Wallace Environmental Testing in Houston, Texas, and then DOT "Show and Display" approval was achieved, with the car first registered on May 15, 2000. For the next seven years, it was properly stored and rarely used when it was acquired by the current owner in mid-September 2007 with just 909 kilometers. Work to obtain California smog certification was completed at great expense in May 2009, and in August that year, the fuel cell was replaced and a new fuel hose kit was installed. Complete with tools and books, California smog-compliant and blessed with known history from new, this XJ220 is unquestionably one of the best available examples of this stunning supercar.

Having contacted previous owner JJ & asked if it was his this was his reply
    That was it.
The car was bought at RM's Auction in August 1999 (During Monterey/Pebble Weekend). I was the Lucky SOB to have to get it titled! At the time, the Show and Display law was in its infancy (it had been passed by the Fed's 1 month before the purchase). The car sat in a bonded warehouse in Canada, then the US and then, back to Canada. When it finally came back to the US and was released to us, it was about 9 months after the sale. Then the fun began! The State of Missouri didn't want to register and title it. 5 more months of screwing around with MO State Highway patrol (who refused to inspect it) and finally, a threatening call to the head of MOHP (Legal Action), got it done. I remember my fist 'Legal' ride in the car like it was yesterday! Everyone laughed that the car had a V6 but the torque was AMAZING. Of all the cars we have sold, past and present, that car has the most 'head turning' quotient of any car I have ever seen on the road.

I was at Pebble two weeks ago but failed to make the RM Auction (we had three cars at another auction). Thanks for the heads up. While I hated the car at the time (because of the headaches of getting it 'Street Legal') I miss it right now. It truly has a presence (especially on the road) like nothing I have ever seen. The only downside is that I am 6'1" and it was difficult to enter/exit. For a car that is longer than an S Class Mercedes, I thought it was preposterous. Now, thinking back, it's just another eccentricity of an Exotic Car.

Take care and thanks for the e-mail. If you are ever in Chesterfield, stop by!

    Additional description from above auction:
    Lot 101
    1993 Jaguar XJ220
To be auctioned on Thursday, August 13, 2015
    Without Reserve
    $275,000 - $375,000

The XJ220 presented here is certainly one of the finest examples available today. It was built in August 1993 and finished just as it was delivered: in Silver over a grey leather interior. Furthermore, it is one of ten cars that was fitted with brake-boosters by the factory. For the first five years of its life, it was one of thirty-seven unsold XJ220s that were carefully stored, sparingly driven, and accordingly serviced and maintained by Jaguar themselves at their factory in Coventry.

In September 1998, these cars finally left Jaguar's possession and were sold to Grange Jaguar, a dealership east of London. This particular car was acquired by James Mills and David Sindelar, of Bentley of St. Louis. At that time, the XJ220 was delivered to Wallace Environmental Testing in Houston for EPA-approval work. It was later granted Show and Display status from the Department of Transportation and road-registered on May 15, 2000. The car was properly stored and rarely used for the next several years.

In May 2009, the next owner of the XJ220 had the car smog certified, at great expense, for use in California. That August, the fuel cell was replaced and a new fuel hose kit was installed, at a cost of nearly $35,000. This is a hugely important service, as fuel cells for XJ220s are notoriously difficult to source. The car was finally purchased by its current owner in 2011, and it has been very well preserved and maintained since, being presented today with a variety of documents and tools.

The XJ220, over 20 years old and still one of the fastest cars on the planet, catapulted Jaguar into the forefront of the supercar world when it was new, and it still demands respect from enthusiasts today. It continues to embody the best of what the marque has come to symbolize: world-beating performance, stunning coachwork, and distinct British character and sophistication.
